December 31, 2024 – Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, at about 6:25 a.m., TCSO deputies
and a California Highway Patrol Officer responded to the area of Black Road and Highway 120 in Groveland on the report of a shooting. The reporting party told dispatch a man with a gun had been beating on his camper, and he had shot the man, and the man ran away on foot.
While Deputies were enroute to the call, a 53-year-old male showed up at the Groveland Fire Station with a gunshot wound to the torso. Firefighters immediately gave the man first aid until medical personnel arrived on the scene and took over. Deputies arrived at the fire station and spoke with the man. The man was later transported by ambulance to a hospital in Stanislaus County for further treatment. The man is in stable condition in an out-of-area hospital.
Deputies arrived on the scene of the shooting and contacted the reporting party, 42-year-old Jonathan William Luczak, and a female associate. Both subjects were detained for further investigation by Deputies, and a firearm was located on the hood of a vehicle. Detectives from the Tuolumne County Investigations Division were called out to the scene and took over the investigation.
Numerous people were interviewed during this investigation, and Luczak was ultimately placed under arrest and booked at the Dambacher Detention Center on 29800(a)(1) PC- Felon/ Addict in possession of a firearm (felony).
This is still an active investigation. Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews and follow up on all available leads.
