Modesto Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting Update
August 12, 2025 – Modesto Police Department officials report that on August 8, 2025, just after 1:00 a.m., Modesto
Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Boulder Avenue for a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, an officer located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The driver and sole occupant was later identified as 19-year-old Jadon Sieng of Modesto. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, Sieng drove toward the officer, striking him. The officer discharged his firearm, striking Sieng once in the arm.
Sieng fled the area and was quickly located by a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Sergeant, who observed him crash near the Highway 99 on-ramp at Hatch Road. Sieng then fled on foot.
Officers from the Modesto Police Department, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, Ceres Police Department, and California Highway Patrol responded to the area. Investigators determined that prior to the encounter with officers, Sieng had violently assaulted a female in Modesto. He then traveled to the 1700 block of Boulder Avenue armed with a handgun and fired multiple rounds toward at least two people in front of a residence.
Sieng was located in the center median of Highway 99, south of Hatch Road, and taken into custody without incident by the Modesto Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. Officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After being treated and released, he was booked into police custody. A loaded handgun was recovered from the vehicle he had been driving.
The officer struck by the suspect’s vehicle was also treated and released from a local hospital for a lower leg injury.
As is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting, three independent investigations have been initiated: a criminal investigation by the Modesto Police Department Investigative Services Division, an internal affairs investigation by the Modesto Police Department, and a review by the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
Sieng was booked on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder on a police officer, felony domestic violence, two counts of attempted homicide, shooting at an occupied dwelling, criminal threats, and various weapons violations.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Keyon Turner at 209-572-9564.
