November 21, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that in November 2024, Madera County Sheriff's K-9 Obie sustained multiple gunshot wounds while protecting deputies during a pursuit of an armed felon. Obie has since recovered and continues to serve Madera County.
To honor K-9 Obie, one of our very own Citizens on Patrol and Chaplain, Debi Johnson, wrote and illustrated a book called “Obie, The Hometown Hero”. If you would like to pick up a copy, it’s available on Amazon or area book stores.
The Madera County Sheriff’s Foundation was instrumental in reestablishing our K-9 unit in 2016, and their ongoing support has allowed for the acquisition of specialized equipment for the K-9’s and the handlers. Thank you for your continued support!
