July 23, 2022 - Merced – On July 19, 2021, Merced Police Officers responded to the 3000 block of Loughborough Drive in Merced for a shooting. Officers located an 18-year-old male who was suffering from a gunshot MPD Harriswound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Dominick Hernandez of Atwater.

21-year-old Marcellus Tremayne Harris of Merced and 20-year-old Troy Melton of Merced were identified as the only suspects in the case. Melton and Harris went on the run and both were believed to have fled the state.

Detective Patrick Radke and Detective Steven Odom were the lead investigators on the case. Detectives spent the past year tracking the movements of Harris while working with a US Marshals Task Force in Washington.

On July 21, 2022, Harris was taken into custody without incident in Federal Way, Washington. He was booked into the Kings County Jail in Seattle, Washington. Harris will have to attend an extradition hearing prior to being transferred to the Merced County Jail.

Detectives will remain vigilant in their search for Troy Melton.
