Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Sunday, August 21, 2022
August 21, 2022 - Weather conditions, including wet and dry thunderstorms, continue to contribute to wildland fires throughout the West. Nationally, 52 large fires have burned approximately 782,000 acres. Four new large fires were reported including two each in Oregon and Montana. Firefighters contained the Black Rock Fire in Oklahoma at 2,743 acres.
As you venture outdoors for end of summer adventures, remember to prevent wildfires by safely using outdoor equipment and vehicles, and be aware of fire restrictions in place that may affect activities like campfires and barbecues. We're all in this together so let's do our best to keep our environment safe and prevent human-caused wildfires.
The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. Isolated mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are likely to develop across northern Washington, central and southeast Idaho, and western Montana. Isolated to scattered mainly dry thunderstorms will develop tonight across northeast Oregon into southeast Washington with strong outflow winds possible. Temperatures 5-15 degrees above normal will continue across the northwestern US, with afternoon relative humidity dropping to 10-25%. Locally elevated fire weather conditions are possible across south-central Oregon into northeast California and northwest Nevada due to southwest winds of 12-20 mph as well. Scattered monsoon thunderstorms will continue over the Southwest and Greater Four Corners. Widespread thunderstorms are forecast across southern Oklahoma and much of Texas with locally heavy rain, with scattered to numerous thunderstorms from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Southeast, Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic, and eastern Great Lakes. http://www.predictiveservices.nifc.gov/outlooks/outlooks.htm
