August 22, 2024 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on August 19, 2024, KCSO Rural Crime Investigations Unit received a call from a local farmer in the south area of the county to report a tractor and diesel trap wagon being stolen from his property.

Rural Crime Unit’s investigation and were led to the 3300 block of Di Giorgio Road, which is located west of Lamont. Rural Crime Detectives obtained further evidence and authored a search warrant for the property. While executing the search warrant, Rural Crime Detectives, along with members from the California Highway Patrol Auto Theft Task Force, located the stolen tractor and diesel trap wagon partially hidden behind other tank trailers. Detectives located a stolen flatbed trailer and a stolen Kawasaki Mule, both were reported stolen to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. As the search continued, Rural Crime Detectives located a 42’ travel trailer and a box truck stolen out of Riverside, a Chevrolet truck reported stolen out of Fresno, and another flatbed trailer stolen from Visalia.

Rural Crime Detectives were able to identify PEDRO BERUMEN CORONADO (39), of Lamont, as the suspect. Coronado had a felony warrant out of Tulare County for similar charges and was out on bail.

On August 20, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Rural Crime Detectives located Coronado in the 10500 block of San Diego Street, in Lamont. Coronado led detectives on a short foot pursuit and was located in the backyard of his residence. Detectives authored a search warrant and located another stolen vehicle from Riverside County. During the investigation, Coronado’s son, PEDRO CORONADO Jr. (18), interfered with the investigation and was ultimately arrested.

Coronado was booked at the Kern County Jail for Operating chop shop, 2 counts of Grand theft agricultural equipment, 9 counts of Possession of stolen vehicle, and Resisting arrest. Coronado Jr. was booked for Obstructing an investigation.
