March 28, 2023 - Due to unprecedented heavy snow and rain in Mariposa County during the first two weeks of March, the Mariposa Storytelling Committee postponed the 2023 Storytelling Festival, originally scheduled for March 9-15, until the third week of April.

First, will be the “Story Generator”, a 90-minute interactive instructional workshop presented by storytellers Norm Brecke and Anne Rutherford to help novice, amateur tellers hone their storytelling skills.   This workshop is an excellent opportunity for teachers, parents, budding comedians, and other public speakers to learn ways to keep an audience’s attention while disseminating information whether it is light-hearted entertainment or critical instruction. The “Story Generator” workshop will be on Thursday, April 20, at 7:00 p.m., at the Mariposa Public Library, 4978 10th Street, Mariposa.  The cost for the workshop is $35 and requires pre-registration by calling (209) 347-0761. There is room for up to 30 participants.

On Saturday, April 22, at 7:00 p.m. there will be an evening of storytelling by four tellers: husband and wife duo Norm Brecke and Anne Rutherford from the Pacific Northwest, also Bay Area teller, Tim Ereneta, and Mariposa local, Angela Heiss.  The featured tellers evening performance will be at the Mariposa United Methodist Church at 4991 6th Street.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.  A suggested $15 donation is requested for the evening’s entertainment.  The performances by the four tellers will include personal stories, historical anecdotes, long-forgotten fairy and folktales, and some of the stories to be accompanied by music on guitar, mandolin, or even kazoo.
