This year’s Annual Mariposa Storytelling Festival will feature many talented artists. The Sierra Sun Times will feature each storyteller leading up to the festival.

Award-winning storyteller, multicultural folklorist and author, Donna Washington, will be a new voice to enchanted story-lovers at the Mariposa County Arts Council’s, 30th Mariposa Storytelling Festival’s Grand Finale Celebration, March   10 - 12. 2017.  Featuring six nationally and internationally renowned storytellers, this magical event, produced by the Mariposa County Arts Council, will take place at the Mariposa County High School on Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th.  Don’t miss our new Sunday Brunch and Stories with the Tellers at the Mariposa Senior Center located at 5246 Spriggs Lane in Mariposa.

Donna’s amazing vocal pyrotechnics and dynamic physicality make her stories come alive and enthrall and delight audience members of all ages. She has been featured at numerous festivals, schools & libraries across the country and has seven multiple-award winning CDs. She is also an accomplished author of six children's books. Donna presents a wide range of tales from many different cultures including Korean Stories, Greek myths, African folk tales, Arthurian Legends, and also personal narratives and stories of her own creation.

2017 Storytelling Festival adBorn an army brat in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Donna has traveled all over with world with her parents. Her father would sit at the dinner table and spin the wildest yarns imaginable. He taught her Arthurian Legend and Greek Mythology by telling the stories in the first person. She thought he had actually been with Merlin and Oedipus and thought he was thousands of years old. She spent from second to sixth grade in Seoul Korea. It was during these years that her parents adopted three Amer-Asian children, and she learned about different people, places, and of course, learned their stories.
