June 6, 2021 - Merced – Merced Police responded to the 100 block of W. Main Street after receiving calls of a female chasing a male down the street with a knife. When officers arrived on scene, they merced police departmentlocated the victim at the corner of ‘H’ Street and W. Main Street. While officers were speaking with the victim, officers noticed the vacant apartment building at 1724 ‘H’ Street had smoke coming out of the windows and roof. Officers went to the building to conduct a safety check and located Amanda Collins (41) standing in the doorway. Collins was taken into custody and admitted to starting the fire. Collins was also identified by the victim as the suspect chasing him with the knife. City of Merced Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Collins was transported to the Merced County Jail where she was booked for terrorist threats, arson, brandishing a weapon, and trespassing.
