December 7, 2021 - LOS ANGELES — California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are searching for Michael Amon, 51, who walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) facility in Los Angeles on December 6, 2021.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., MCRP officials received a tamper alert from Amon’s ankle monitor and discovered Amon had departed the MCRP without authorization. Within minutes, an emergency search was initiated and agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were dispatched to locate and apprehend Amon. Notification has also been made to local law enforcement agencies.

Amon is described as a while male, 5’9”, weighs approximately 210 pounds, and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

Amon was sentenced to state prison from Los Angeles County on July 27, 2021 to serve a two-year sentence for first-degree burglary. He had arrived at the MCRP the morning of Dec. 6 and was scheduled to be released from CDCR custody in June of 2023.

Anyone who sees Amon or has any knowledge of his whereabouts should immediately contact law enforcement or call 911.

The MCRP allows eligible offenders committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the re-entry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for male offenders who have approximately one year left to serve. The program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
