February 17, 2022 - MERCED - The Merced Police Department reports Christopher Mendoza,32, was arrested for attempted carjacking.
On Wednesday, February 16th, officers responded to Family Dollar at 398 W. 16th Street for a disturbance. Mr. Mendoza approached the victim’s vehicle and tried to steal it while she was in the drivers seat. The victim accidentally crashed her vehicle while trying to get away from the suspect.
Officer Lee and Officer Richter spotted Christopher Mendoza in the the parking lot. He was apprehended after a foot pursuit. The victim was unharmed and was able to identify her attacker.
Mr. Mendoza was arrested and booked at the Merced County Jail for attempted carjacking and suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
