January 8, 2023 – A felony warrant was issued against Deputy Cory Richey for 13 counts of burglary and three counts of possession of a controlled substance. Early this morning, detectives from the Sheriff's san diego county sheriff department logoDepartment arrested Richey.

The arrest occurred this morning around 7:30 a.m. as Richey arrived at his work location. Richey was booked into the San Diego Central Jail for the felony warrant just before 12:30 p.m. His bail is set at $250,000.

Several search warrants were executed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Richey has been employed with the Sheriff's Department since March 2007. This case is concurrently being investigated by the San Diego Sheriff's Internal Affairs Unit who will thoroughly examine Richey's actions. He has been suspended without pay from the Sheriff's Department.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department does not tolerate any criminal activity from our employees and investigates all actions of misconduct. We hold our employees accountable for decisions made and actions taken. As steadfast public servants, we will continue to maintain the highest level of expectations and require all our employees to adhere to policies and procedures, as well as all federal, state, and local statutes. The communities we serve expect this of the Sheriff's Department and we demand this of ourselves.
