February 23, 2023 - Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 3:15 P.M., deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station (Norco) responded to the riverside county sheriff logo3800 block of Pedley Avenue, in the city of Norco, regarding a suspicious person. Deputies located the subject, later identified as Ryan Kendall (age 54), resident of Beaumont, in a vehicle. Upon contacting Kendall, deputies believed he was under the influence of a controlled substance and attempted to detain him. Kendall fled the scene, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, tire deflation devices were successfully deployed, which caused all four tires to deflate.

As the pursuit entered the city of Corona, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office K9 Team and the Corona Police Department responded to assist. Using an armored vehicle, the Corona Police Department conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to bring the pursuit to an end. After Kendall’s vehicle spun out, he intentionally accelerated toward two Riverside County Sheriff’s vehicles and struck them. After he rammed the sheriff’s vehicles, Kendall’s vehicle was immobilized, and he was eventually taken into custody.

No deputies or officers were injured. The suspect was treated at a local area hospital for injuries he sustained during this incident. Kendall was later booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, resisting arrest, driving under the influence and evading.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Whittenburg at the Jurupa Valley Station at 951-955-2600.
