March 2, 2023 - Caltrans officials report Highway 70 remains CLOSED at the Greenville Wye with new slide activity from the latest round of weather.
STATE ROUTE 70 UPDATE: State Route 70 remains closed to through traffic between Jarbo Gap (west of Pulga) and the Greenville Wye (junction with State Route 89) in Butte and Plumas Counties due to continuing and new slide activity at the following locations:
NEW - Near Opapee and Murphy Creeks (Plumas County, approximate post mile 12.4): Snow/debris avalanche occurred on February 28 in the area, with large amount of snow filled with rocks/trees/other debris coming down. Snow/debris removal are underway at this location (photos below).
NEW - Near the Butte/Plumas County Line (Plumas County, approximate post mile 0): New activity occurred at location last weekend. This location was very active towards the end of 2021. Further assessment planned after inclement weather (photos below).
Just east of Belden (Plumas County, approximate post mile 15.2): More significant slide activity occurred on February 28 from the fracturing slope. Assessment continues and operations will follow when area is deemed safe (photos below).
West of Rush Creek Road, between Belden and Twain (Plumas County, approximate post mile 22.7): Minimal material has come down in recent storms and area remains somewhat stable currently.
While there remains no current estimated time of opening the highway, Caltrans and the contractor continue operations and safety assessments to resume through route access. Motorists are advised to continue to choose alternate routes. Future inclement weather may hinder operations or cause additional activity.
