May 2, 2023 - San Bernardino County Sheriff Department officials report that on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, a male inmate at the West Valley Detention Center, identified as Jose Rodriguez, became ill and was seen by jail medical staff.  Due to a medical condition, Rodriguez was transported and admitted to a hospital for treatment.  

Rodriguez remained hospitalized and on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, jail officials were notified that his health was deteriorating.  Two days later, on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at approximately 3:52 p.m., Rodriguez was pronounced deceased.  

Rodriguez was arrested on February 13, 2023, by the Ontario Police Department for California Penal Code 273.5 – Spousal Abuse.  At the time of his arrest, Rodriguez was taken to a hospital for medical clearance for a pre-existing condition prior to his booking.
