June 22, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report on recent drugs found in Auburn Jail.

Less than a week after our correctional officers completed illicit hazardous environment training, our dedicated jail staff at the Auburn Jail received valuable information regarding possible narcotics in one of the cells.

To ensure the safety and security of everyone involved, we promptly deployed one of our trained corrections K-9s to conduct a thorough search of the cell. The K-9 led to alerts in multiple areas within the cell, indicating the presence of suspicious substances. Following these alerts, our diligent Jail Hazardous Narcotics Team swiftly took action. Utilizing the advanced MX908 mass spectrometer detection device, they swabbed and tested the areas identified by the K-9. The results were concerning, as multiple illicit hazardous substances, including fentanyl, were detected during the testing process. Our correctional officers immediately implemented appropriate measures to ensure the proper decontamination of the affected cell. Staff and inmate safety is our top priority, and we remain committed to maintaining a secure environment within our facilities.
