June 25, 2023 - Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials report that the homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting in the city of Diamond Bar.
Walnut Station Deputies were responding to the 2900 block of Crooked Creek Drive, regarding a man in the street firing a rifle. When deputies arrived on scene, they observed the suspect holding the rifle. They gave the suspect multiple verbal commands to put the weapon down, including commands over the P.A. System. The suspect ignored the commands and continued walking away from the deputies. As the suspect approached a citizen who was stopped in his vehicle on Diamond Bar Boulevard, a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Deputies learned the suspect had stabbed his mother with a knife prior to their arrival. The suspect’s mother was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and was deemed to be in stable condition and discharged from the hospital later that evening.
The suspect is 30-year-old Benjamin Chin. He was pronounced deceased at a local hospital later that evening.
