Death Investigation - Alvarado Hospital 

June 28, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on June 26, 2023, Sheriff's Homicide investigators were notified 66-year-old Paul Arthur Heimark, an individual in Sheriff's custody, passed away at Alvarado Hospital around 9:30 p.m. Heimark had medical issues that were identified by Sheriff medical staff at the time of his booking. He was admitted to the hospital directly after completing the intake process. Heimark has been receiving care at the hospital and was never housed at a detention facility. We extend our sympathies to the Heimark family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.

Heimark was remanded into custody by a judge on June 16, 2023, stemming from a probation hold placed on him. Heimark failed to comply with the terms of his probation for his original charge of 11351 H&S -Possession for sale of a controlled substance. Heimark resided in the city of San Diego at the time of his arrest.

The Citizen's Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) was notified of this incident and responded to the hospital.

As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
