July 1, 2023 - Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on June 22nd, 2023, the Ventura County Grand Jury publicly released a report entitled, “Deaths in Ventura County Detention and Jail Facilities.” The Sheriff’s Office has received the report and are in the process of reviewing it. Upon initial review, it is evident that the Sheriff’s Office needs to respond in order to provide a more accurate account of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office jail operations and demonstrate how the Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing the highest level of service within our detention facilities. The Sheriff’s Office will provide a formal response to the Grand Jury report after the review is complete. This response is required within 60 days of the release of the report by the Grand Jury.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is committed to the people incarcerated in our jails. We provide the best medical and psychiatric care possible for them. In addition, we work diligently to ensure every incarcerated person is treated with dignity and respect and are given every constitutionally protected right. We are committed to continually reviewing and, when necessary, revising our policies and practices to exceed industry standards in all areas.
