July 7, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that through the investigation of Hughes, detectives discovered additional evidence which resulted in a felony charge of aggravated possession of child pornography — this led detectives to pursue a bail enhancement for Hughes which was granted by a judge for $400,000.

Original information: Detectives with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office arrested two suspects in separate cases during an ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) operation to crack down on child pornography.

Detectives served a search warrant with Roseville police officers and Placer County probation officers at 22-year-old Frederick Li’s home in Roseville, where they located several hundred images of child pornography.

A second search warrant was served in Colfax at the home and employment of 40-year-old Paul Hughes. Detectives located numerous evidence of child pornography and through the investigation, learned Hughes had been taking photos of children in addition to secretly filming women in a restroom. Hughes was arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography and invasion of privacy.
