August 15, 2023 - San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office officials report that on August 10, 2023, the Coroner's Unit of the Sheriff's Office identified the body of an Atascadero 
man who had been reported missing in July.
35-year-old Darren Santangelo was reported missing by family members on July 6, 2023. Santangelo was last seen by a family member on June 30, 2023, at about 9:00 P.M. leaving his residence in the 7500 block of Rocky Canyon Road in Atascadero. On July 9, 2023, the Atascadero Police Department responded to a call of human remains located near the Chalk Mountain Golf Course. Coroner Detectives positively identified the remains as Santangelo.
At this time, there is no indication the death was suspicious or the result of foul play.
This investigation is continuing. No further information is available at this time.
