Homicide in Unincorporated El Cajon
September 15, 2023 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on September 3rd at about 3:30 p.m., the San Diego County Sheriff's Department was notified of a 
suspicious death that happened in the 1200 block of Harbison Canyon Road in unincorporated El Cajon.
A deceased man was found at the location with apparent trauma to the upper body. The victim in this incident has been identified as 59-year-old Samuel Holthaus. Holthaus' family has been notified of his death.
Investigators from the Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded to the scene. During the investigation, the manner of death was determined to be homicide by the Medical Examiner's Office.
A suspect was identified as Kenneth McNally (40). He was arrested by the Sheriff's Fugitive Task Force. The motivation and circumstances are still under investigation.
