November 14, 2023 – San Diego Police Department officials report that a high-speed chase put our Southern Division officers to the test when a stolen vehicle tried to make a break for it. The chase was on with the suspect hitting over 100 mph, lights off, and the danger high. Thanks to our skilled officers' strategic thinking, they backed off at the right moment and let @SDSheriff's helicopter ASTREA take the lead. The aerial team followed the car until the suspect bailed out, trying to disappear on foot.

Enter our four-legged officer, the star of the night. The suspect was holed up, not budging, until our K9 was called into action. A tense standoff turned into a showcase of precision training; the K9 was en route to apprehend when the suspect waved the white flag.

A quick command from the handler called off the pursuit — all bark, no bite needed. This moment shows the invaluable skill our K9s bring to the force; they're not just about power; they're about smart, safe resolutions.

A massive thank you to the @NationalCityPD, @SDSheriff, and everyone involved. This is a perfect example of how collaboration with our county partners and the proper training make our community a safer place.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle (with priors), felony evading, a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, a convicted felon in possession of tear gas (pepper spray), and an outstanding federal warrant.
