November 26, 2023 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report on November 23, 2023, at 8:40 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley riverside county sheriff logoSheriff’s Station responded to a report of a male suspect brandishing a firearm at a female adult and juvenile. The female was attempting to drive out of the parking lot, when she backed into a black pick-up truck. The driver of the pick-up truck, later identified as 54-year-old Jay Ali Sherman, approached the female on the driver side of her vehicle and demanded she provide her vehicle paperwork. When the victim attempted to call 911, Sherman grabbed her cellphone, brandished a firearm to her and told her he would find her. Once a few passersbys began yelling at Sherman, he left the victim’s phone behind and drove away.

Sherman was apprehended on November 25, 2023, when a search warrant was served in the 11000 block of Wild Flax Lane, in the city of Moreno Valley. Evidentiary items were located at the residence. Sherman was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery, criminal threats, brandishing a firearm, false imprisonment, intimidating a witness, enabling the usage of a phone line, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
