December 10, 2023 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that a press conference was held by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives to provide information about the murder of 23-year-old Miguel Angel Prado.  The press conference was attended by the parents of victim, Maria Sanchez and Jose Prado, his siblings, Compton Station Captain Terrance Bell, and Mayor of Compton, Emma Sharif.  The detectives are seeking assistance from the public for information that could lead to the apprehension and prosecution of individual(s) responsible for the death of Mr. Prado.

On Friday, August 18, 2023, at approximately 12:46 A.M., Compton Sheriff’s deputies responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call at the 100 block of E. Caldwell Street in the city of Compton.  Upon arrival, deputies observed Miguel Prado in the driver seat of an SUV, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.  Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and began medical treatment of Miguel.  Miguel succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the investigation, investigators learned Miguel had returned home from an eight-hour work shift in Los Angeles with his girlfriend.  Prior to going inside his apartment, Miguel and his girlfriend started talking in their SUV.  As Miguel and his girlfriend sat and socialized in their SUV, which was parked along the south side of East Caldwell Street, a light-colored sedan was observed driving west from Tamarind Avenue in their direction.  The sedan stopped just west of their SUV and soon after, a light-skinned black male adult approached the driver side door where Miguel was seated and looked inside.

Miguel immediately reacted and started his SUV.  He attempted to accelerate away; however, he was shot several times in the upper torso, which caused him to collide with a parked vehicle on the north side of the street.  After the shooting, the light-colored sedan was observed driving west on Caldwell Street from the scene to southbound Willowbrook Avenue and out of view.

Investigators believed the shooting was gang-related and Miguel Prado was the innocent victim of a senseless act of violence.  LASD Homicide investigators believe there are witnesses in the area who may have seen the suspect or know the suspect’s identity.

Mayor of Compton, Emma Sharif, stated Miguel Prado “made an impact on our community as he recently obtained his security guard license and was working at a facility that cared for US Veterans.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), use your smartphone by downloading the “P3 Tips” Mobile APP on Google play or the Apple App Store or by using the website https://lacrimestoppers.org
