Traffic Pursuit & Collision in Encinitas

December 12, 2023 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on December 10th just after 9:15 p.m., a san diego county sheriff department logodeputy from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station saw a black Toyota Corolla that was unable to maintain lanes.  The Deputy believed the driver was possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Deputy initiated a traffic enforcement stop but the driver failed to yield, and a traffic pursuit ensued.  The Deputy pursued the car onto Northbound Interstate 5 and surface streets.  The Corolla ran several red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road.  The Deputy stopped pursuing the vehicle but followed its path from the last known location, Eastbound on La Costa Avenue from Piraeus St.

As the Deputy approached the intersection of La Costa Ave and El Camino Real, he observed the Corolla was involved in a collision with two other vehicles.  The first vehicle was occupied by a 41-year-old man.  His vehicle went off the road as a result of the collision. He received minor injuries and deputies rendered aid until relieved by firefighters.  He was taken to the hospital to be treated.

The second vehicle was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and 18-year-old male passenger.  They were evaluated by firefighters and paramedics at the scene and had no injuries.

The driver, and only occupant, of the Corolla, 40-year-old Lindsey Roberts was arrested for an outstanding felony arrest warrant and 2800.2 CVC felony evading.  She was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters at the scene.  She was taken to the hospital for treatment of possible broken bones.

Sheriff's Deputies are conducting the criminal investigation while the Carlsbad Police Department is investigating the traffic collision.
