Car Crash in Encinitas 

December 21, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that an investigation is underway into a deadly crash in Encinitas.

It happened on Tuesday, December 19 just after 11:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Via Cantebria.

When deputies with the North Coastal Sheriff's Station arrived on scene, they found a minivan that had crashed into a retaining wall. Deputies and paramedics rushed to help the driver, but the woman did not survive her injuries. The driver was the only person in the minivan.

A preliminary investigation shows the minivan was going north on Via Cantebria when for some reason it left the road, struck a pole or streetlight then crashed into a retaining wall. It is unknown at this time if a medical emergency, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the woman, as well as determine cause and manner of death pending notification of her family.
