December 27, 2023 – CAL FIRE officials report that recently, the community of Ramona faced a structure fire involving a barn and an RV.  Responding CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire firefighters confronted intense conditions, battling both heavy fire and a persistent east wind propelling embers towards a residential area. The RV's ignited propane tanks added complexity to the situation.

Undeterred by the shifting dynamics, firefighters aggressively attacked the fire and rescued nearly 20 horses and dogs, including the puppies (see photos below), a testament to their heroic efforts. In a remarkable 34 minutes from the alarm, CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire, in collaboration with multiple agencies, successfully extinguished the fire, preserving surrounding property valued at over $500,000.

The seamless coordination of these firefighting forces made this achievement possible. Sadly, despite the firefighters’ efforts, the fire resulted in the death of a horse.
