Arrest of Robbery Suspect
January 1, 2024 - Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Thursday, December 28, 2023, a robbery occurred in the 900 block of Ventura Street in Fillmore. About thirty minutes prior to midnight, a Hispanic male walked up behind the adult male victim and forcibly pulled the victim to the ground before taking property from the victim. The suspect fled on foot to an awaiting charcoal gray minivan, which was driven by a second suspect. The van then fled the area in an unknown direction of travel with both suspects. The crime was witnessed by several individuals.
Fillmore patrol personnel initiated an investigation which led to identifying (S) Brian Valencia as a person of interest in the robbery. A few hours after the robbery, Valencia was arrested in the city of Fillmore for an unrelated crime and booked at the Main Jail in Ventura.
On Friday, December 29, 2023, detectives, patrol deputies and the Main Jail Classification Unit, conducted a follow-up investigation into the robbery. The follow-up led to identifying Valencia as the robbery suspect.
On Friday, December 29, 2023, during the evening hours, detectives obtained and served a search warrant at a residence located in the 200 block of Olive Street in Fillmore. West County Special Enforcement Unit and Fillmore patrol deputies assisted with the warrant service. During the warrant service, detectives located additional evidence linking Valencia to the robbery. Additionally, Valencia’s getaway driver was identified.
On Saturday, December 30, 2023, Valencia was supplementally booked for violation of Penal Code Section 211 – Robbery. Valencia is currently in custody at the Main Jail pending arraignment and the investigation is ongoing.
