Domestic Violence and Animal Cruelty Suspect Wanted 

January 4, 2024 - Los Angeles, CA - Los Angeles Police Department officials report that the Operations-Central Bureau Family Justice Center Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect of a domestic violence that killed the victim’s pet.

On January 2, 2024, around 11:50 a.m., the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old David Sumlin (pictured), became involved in an argument with the victim. After the argument, Sumlin held a pillow over the victim’s dog and pointed a firearm into the pillow. Sumlin then stated, “it’s either you or the dog.” Sumlin proceeded to fire two rounds into the pillow striking the 4-month-old puppy. Central Area officers transported the puppy to a local animal shelter where it passed away.

Sumlin is described as a male Black with black hair and brown eyes. He stands six feet seven inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. Sumlin is a transient who frequents the area of 7th Street and Stanford Avenue in the Downtown Los Angeles area. The firearm used remains outstanding. If you see Sumlin, do not approach and contact 911.
