Train Collision in San Diego
January 15, 2024 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that an investigation is underway after a deadly train collision in the City of San Diego.
It happened on Thursday, January 11, just before 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sassafras Street and Pacific Highway in the City of San Diego. When San Diego Police Officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by a northbound Coaster train. Paramedics rushed to give aid, but he did not survive his injuries.
The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit (TEU) investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District (NCTD) which the Coaster uses. San Diego Police requested the Sheriff's TEU respond to conduct the investigation.
The Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the man, as well as determine cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
