Train Collision in Encinitas
January 15, 2024 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that an investigation is underway after a deadly train collision in the City of Encinitas.
It happened on Saturday, January 13, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Near the intersection of Vulcan and D Street in the city of Encinitas. When San Diego Sheriff's Department Deputies arrived, they found a man who was hit by a southbound BNSF freight train. The victim did not survive his injuries.
The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit (TEU) investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District which BNSF uses. Sheriff deputies from the North Coastal station requested the Sheriff's TEU respond to conduct the investigation.
The Medical Examiner's Office will make an identification of the man, as well as determine the cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
