Fatal Collision in San Marcos 

January 19, 2024 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on January 18, 2024, at 7:43 P.M., deputies responded to a san diego county sheriff department logoreport of a vehicle collision at the intersection of West Mission Road and North Las Posas Road in the city of San Marcos.  

A 66-year-old female was walking northbound through the crosswalk near the Palomar Sprinter Station, when she was struck by a grey Toyota Tacoma. The truck was driven by a 61-year-old male who was heading westbound in the 1100 block of West Mission Road, when the collision occurred.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma stopped his truck and contacted law enforcement. A witness driving by noticed the incident, stopping to perform life-saving measures on the pedestrian. San Marcos Fire and Paramedics also arrived on scene and advised the pedestrian had succumbed to her injuries.

The Medical Examiner's office responded to the scene. They will determine the cause of death, identify the female, and notify her family.

Drugs, speed nor alcohol are suspected to be a contributing factor in the traffic collision.      

The cause of the collision is ongoing and is being investigated by the San Marcos Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information about this collision can call the San Marcos Traffic Unit at (760) 510-5200.
