Missing Person Found in Lakeside
March 21, 2024 - San Diego County Sheriff's Department officials report that on Tuesday, March 19, a 57-year-old man was reported missing after he did not return from a hike in Sycamore Canyon. The man started his hike at 9:00 a.m. and was expected to return to his family around 1:00 p.m. When the man did not return, his family contacted the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
A Sheriff's Command Post was established at the Sycamore Canyon County Preserve, located in the 16000 block of Sycamore Canyon Road in Poway. The Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit was also activated. SAR Volunteers searched the area with the assistance of the Sheriff's ASTREA (helicopter) Unit throughout the night.
On Wednesday, March 20 around 3:00 a.m., the man was found alive on one of the hiking trails in Sycamore Canyon. He was transported to a local hospital and his family was notified.
