Update: Homicide - Encinitas 

May 15, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on May 11, 2024, at about 10:11 p.m., san diego county sheriff department logodeputies responded to the 300 block of Sprucewood Drive in Encinitas, reference a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies discovered one adult male with a stab wound to his abdomen. Medical aid was provided, and the victim was transported to the hospital by the Encinitas Fire Department. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. On May 13, 2024, an autopsy was completed. The preliminary cause of death is a stab wound to the abdomen and the manner of death is homicide. The victim has been positively identified as 19-year-old Miguel Mozo-Hernandez from Encinitas.

Miguel's brother, a 17-year-old juvenile, was located about a half mile away near LA Fitness. The brothers were involved in an altercation in the front yard of the residence. During the altercation, the juvenile stabbed Miguel. The juvenile was arrested for homicide and was booked into custody at Juvenile Hall.

At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation. There are no outstanding suspects and no apparent danger to the community.
