May 15, 2024 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Saturday, May 11, 2024, a facility-
wide search was conducted at the High Desert Detention Center (HDDC). The operation consisted of numerous personnel from HDDC, narcotics detection canines from San Bernardino County Probation, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Division, and Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The operation was successful in recovering weapons and dangerous contraband from inside the jail facility.
During the search, narcotics detection canines successfully alerted the presence of narcotics within several pieces of U.S. mail that had been mailed to inmates housed at the facility. Narcotics detection canines successfully alerted the presence of narcotics inside the inmate housing unit. The investigation is ongoing, pending further analysis to determine the type and quantity of narcotics recovered.
Detention staff continues to combat the smuggling of narcotics into our correctional facilities. These efforts are crucial in maintaining the safety and security of both staff and inmates, as well as preventing the spread of drug-related issues and overdoses within the facilities. The detention staff remains committed to staying vigilant in their efforts to keep our jails drug-free and will continue to utilize all available resources to achieve this goal.
