Arrest Made in Tagging Crew Graffiti Investigation
June 7, 2024 - Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that on March 29, 2024, deputies with Camarillo Patrol Services responded to a vandalism that occurred on the 1700 Block of Ventura Boulevard in the City of Camarillo. Upon arrival, deputies located a graffiti vandalism which was believed to be related to a local “tagging crew”. A tagging crew is a group of people who work together to vandalize property with graffiti for recognition, notoriety, or thrill. The information was forwarded to detectives assigned to the Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit (SEU).
During the investigation, numerous additional vandalisms involving the same suspect occurred. Detectives identified the suspect as Miguel Angel Lopez. Detectives authored a search warrant for the search of Lopez, his vehicle, and his residence located in the City of Camarillo. The warrant was signed by a Judge of the Ventura County Superior Court.
On June 6, 2024, SEU detectives with assistance of deputies assigned to the Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit and the Camarillo Investigations Bureau, served the search warrant at the residence. During the search warrant service, Lopez was contacted and placed under arrest for vandalism.
During a search of the residence, additional evidence further implicating Lopez in the vandalism was located in his residence and vehicle. These vandalisms have cost the city thousands of dollars to repair which is a burden on the taxpayers.
Lopez was arrested for multiple violations of PC 594(b)(1) – Felony Vandalism. Due to the fact Lopez committed the vandalisms before he was 18 years-old, Lopez was lodged into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center.
The Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit is comprised of a sergeant and four detectives, whose focus is assisting patrol services with the investigation of various crimes including, but not limited to, the investigation of illegal firearms, gang related crimes, and graffiti vandalism.
