Possession of Firearm in Vista
August 11, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that a man is facing numerous charges after a privately made firearm (also known as a ghost gun) was found during a traffic stop.
It happened on Friday, August 9, 2024, just before 10:30 p.m. near the 1900 block of West Vista Way, Vista. Deputies with the Vista Sheriff's Station Gang Enforcement Team stopped a white Ford sedan for equipment violations and expired registration. During the traffic stop, the driver, Michael Beason (36) was found to be in possession of a loaded ghost gun.
Unlike legal firearms, privately made firearms are not marked with serial numbers so there is no way to track their origins or their owners. This makes it harder for law enforcement to investigate or solve a crime involving a privately made firearm.
Beason will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of possessing an undetectable firearm and other related firearms charges.
