It happened on Wednesday, August 14 just before 11:00 p.m. in the 1100 block of Connecticut Street. Deputies with the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation responded to a call of a traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian.

When deputies arrived, they found a woman who had been hit by a car lying on the ground. Paramedics rushed to the aid of the woman. Despite life-saving efforts, she did not survive her injuries.

Through their investigation, deputies learned a red Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing pin stripe seen leaving the area was likely involved in the collision.

Eric Cox (62) was identified as the owner and driver of the Camaro. He was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail for manslaughter, felony driving under the influence with injury and felony hit-and-run with great bodily injury/death.

Anyone with information about this incident can call the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation at (619) 498-2400.

The Medical Examiner's Office will make an identification of the woman, as well as determine the cause and manner of death, pending notification of her family.
