In-Custody Death 

August 20, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 2:15 p.m., deputies from the Cois Byrd Detention Center found an unresponsive male in an Intake Sobering Cell. Deputies and jail medical personnel immediately administered life-saving measures until paramedics arrived on scene. The male was ultimately pronounced deceased.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Corrections Central Investigations responded and assumed the investigation. The inmate was identified as 41-year-old Joshua Frank Swart of Lake Elsinore. There were no signs of foul play.
