August 21, 2024 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia station responded to a report of a man down at Main Street and Oakwood Avenue, in Hesperia. Upon arriving, they located the victim, Walter Martinez, unconscious, with head trauma. Martinez was transported to a trauma Center in critical condition. Through investigation, deputies identified Jose Ramon Gonzalez as the suspect. Gonzalez was located at a nearby business and arrested for attempted murder.

On August 19, 2024, Martinez was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division-Homicide Detail assumed the investigation. Gonzalez was supplementally booked for PC 187-Murder.
