Assault with a Deadly Weapon in Encinitas
August 21, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that a burglary suspect is facing serious charges after crashing into
several vehicles, including Sheriff's patrol cars, and leading deputies on a pursuit through Encinitas.
It happened on Tuesday, August 20, just after 9:00 a.m. Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a call of a prowler at a home in the 600 block of 4th Street.
While checking the home, a man later identified as Dominic Ferrara (31) came out and sped away in a car. He then led deputies on a pursuit.
During the nine-minute pursuit, Ferrara struck two parked cars and rammed two Sheriff's patrol cars. He then crashed into another car on southbound Interstate 5 near La Costa Avenue. Ferrara then ran from his car and headed into a neighborhood near the 500 block of Rockport Court.
A Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter was called in to help with the search. Deputies also established a perimeter in the area. Ferrara was soon taken into custody without incident. He is facing charges of burglary, reckless evading a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism.
