End of Mandatory Overtime

August 23, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that Sheriff Kelly A. Martinez is proud to announce the end of mandatory overtime for all deputies with the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

For the past several years, the Sheriff's Office has been under a mandatory overtime directive to meet minimum staffing requirements. Challenges created by the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as staffing shortages due to retirements and resignations, have affected law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Sheriff Martinez is grateful for the hard work and sacrifice made by deputies to ensure day-to-day operations at the Sheriff's Office.

"As mandatory overtime comes to an end, I want to praise our law enforcement, detentions and court services deputies and their families for supporting this directive," said Sheriff Martinez. "The sacrifice they made to accomplish our mission of keeping our communities safe, regardless of our staffing, is nothing short of amazing."

The Sheriff's Office is always looking for talented and hard-working people with integrity to join our agency. We have several job openings, including patrol/detentions deputies and emergency services dispatchers. We are also hiring nurses and licensed mental health clinicians for our jails.

With 171 job classifications, we have rewarding career opportunities for everyone. For more information about working for the Sheriff's Office, visit: www.joinsdsheriff.net.
