School Violence Threat Arrest
September 7, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on September 4, 2024, at 6:02 p.m., the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station received a report of school violence threats posted online against a high school in the 31000 block of Rattler Road. With the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), deputies identified a residence in the 27000 block of Ventura Drive, Cathedral City, as the location of origin of the threats.
On September 5, 2024, the Riverside Sheriff’s school resource deputy identified a 17-year-old male as the suspect responsible for making the online criminal threats. The Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team, with the assistance of the Cathedral City Police Department, conducted a search of the juvenile’s home and located evidence of the online criminal threats. There were no firearms nor dangerous weapons located on the premises. The juvenile was arrested and booked into juvenile hall for criminal threats against the school. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats of school violence seriously and encourages all members of our community to report any online threats or suspicious activity to law enforcement or the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov) to prevent any planned acts of violence against our communities.
