September 9, 2024 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Saturday afternoon, deputies responded to Lakewood Blvd. and Rose Street to help a victim locate her stolen vehicle. The deputies located the stolen vehicle and arrested the driver, a male adult resident of Norwalk. The deputies immediately recognized the suspect because they arrested him on August 16 for GTA. The suspect was also arrested on August 6 for GTA and possession of narcotics. The suspect was released on both of those cases due to current zero bail policies.

The suspects’ rap sheet revealed over 30 felony and misdemeanor arrests, which included assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, residential burglary, grand theft, petty theft, and possession of narcotics. Most of those arrests led to a sentence of probation. The suspect has served some days in county jail but has never been sentenced to state prison.

During Saturday’s arrest Lakewood jail staff requested a Magistrate Review (reviewed by the on-duty judge), which is an extra step required to keep continuous offenders in jail until their court appearance. The Magistrate Review system was implemented along with zero bail policies.

Lakewood Deputies will continue to work hard to keep our communities safe, despite the current policies set by the justice system.

Be safe everyone!
