Scooter Collision Leaves One Dead

September 25, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that the Department’s West Traffic Division Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a scooter and a pedestrian.

On September 12, 2024, around 4:50 p.m., a female and a male were riding separate motorized scooters westbound James M. Wood Boulevard near Westmoreland Avenue, on the sidewalk. The female collided into a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk, causing her to fall off the scooter and the pedestrian to fall onto the ground. The female picked up the scooter and fled the scene, following the male, eastbound James M. Wood Boulevard without identifying herself or rendering aid to the pedestrian, as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and provided medical treatment to the pedestrian. The pedestrian was later taken to a local area hospital by family members, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Video of the incident can be viewed here: www.lapdonline.org.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact West Traffic Detectives at 213-473-0234. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the L.A.
