September 27, 2024 – Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials report that since May of 2024, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Liaison Unit has collaborated with county partners to conduct over twenty outreach initiatives for the unhoused communities within Ventura County. The Ventura County Backpack Medicine Team is comprised of compassionate representatives from multiple social service agencies within the county. Representatives include, but are not limited to, the Ventura County Human Services Agency, Ventura County Behavioral Health, Veterans Affairs Office, local shelters, physicians from Ventura County Medical Center, and more.
During this time period, over 300 individuals have been contacted and offered resources. By going out and actively contacting and engaging individuals in the field, we have a better chance of building trusting relationships in the different communities. This helps lead individuals to being more receptive to resources and getting the help they need.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office approaches homelessness and related issues through a multifaceted strategy. By taking this flexible approach and working closely with our county and city leaders, along with community partners, we aim to achieve successful outcomes for our unhoused population while improving quality of life and safety in our communities.
