October 2, 2024 – Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that in September of 2024, the East County Investigations Ventura County Sheriff logoProperty Crimes Unit learned there had been numerous reported incidents of thefts from vehicles and vehicle tampering in the city of Thousand Oaks.

Between September 12, 2024, and September 16, 2024, there were six separate reported incidents of thefts from unlocked vehicles and vehicle tampering.  The suspect in these cases appeared to target unlocked vehicles.  The suspect stole cash, credit cards, and personal items left in the unlocked vehicles.  These crimes occurred in the Rancho Conejo Neighborhood and Arbor Hills Neighborhood within the city of Thousand Oaks.

Detectives obtained evidence from various locations and were able to identify the suspect for these crimes as Randall Sellner.  Detectives conducted a probation search at Sellner’s residence and located evidence related to the crimes.

On September 30, 2024, detectives supplementally booked Sellner for several charges of PC 484(a) – Petty Theft and VC 10852 – Vehicle Tampering.  Sellner had been in custody at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on unrelated charges.  Seller remains in custody and is scheduled for arraignment on October 2, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ventura County Superior Court.

The city of Thousand Oaks is an extremely safe community.  However, this sense of safety is occasionally exploited by the criminal element.  The Thousand Oaks Police Department encourages all members of our community to remove valuable items from their vehicles and lock their vehicles to ensure they maintain their possessions.  Remember, “Remove it, Lock it, Keep it.”

The East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit continues to combat property crimes through keeping the community informed of current crime trends while aggressively pursuing and arresting those that chose to do us harm.
