Weapons Arrest in San Marcos

October 18, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that a man has been arrested after being found with a loaded, privately manufactured gun in public in San Marcos.

It happened on Thursday, October 17, just after 11:00 a.m., at Connors Park, located in the 300 block of West San Marcos Boulevard. Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station were responding to a call about a disturbance at the park.

When they arrived, they found out a man had gotten into a verbal argument with his girlfriend. During their investigation, deputies discovered the man, identified as Juan Beltran (DOB 10/03/1987), had a loaded, privately manufactured weapon, commonly referred to as ghost gun, in his fanny pack.

Unlike weapons made by a licensed manufacturer, ghost guns do not have a serial number or other identifiable markings. The lack of a serial number makes it extremely challenging for law enforcement agencies to track these firearms to their owner or maker, hindering or delaying investigations and crime-solving efforts.

Also found in Beltran's fanny pack were two methamphetamine glass pipes and a small clear baggie containing a rock of methamphetamine.

Beltran was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on various drug and firearms charges.

The safety of our community is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that illegal firearms are off our streets and that those who possess them are held accountable. If you observe criminal activity in your neighborhood, call the San Diego County Sheriff's Office at (858) 868-3200.
