Organized Retail Crime Arrest 

October 26, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on August 28, 2024, at 6:01 p.m., deputies riverside county sheriff logofrom the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to a beauty supply store in the city of Lake Elsinore regarding a grand theft. Store representatives advised a male and female entered the store, selected over $3,000 in beauty products, and exited the store without attempting to pay. The Lake Elsinore Robbery/Burglary Team assumed the investigation and learned on September 28, 2024, that the same suspects returned to the store in Lake Elsinore and stole an additional $2,000 worth of beauty products. The suspects were identified as 51-year-old Giovanni Munoz Leon and 32-year-old Nury Herrera, both residents of Ontario. Deputies and investigators worked in collaboration with employees of the beauty store. They determined that from June to October of 2024, Leon and Herrera were responsible for over 50 thefts within California, totaling $123,000 in merchandise.

On Thursday, October 24, 2024, deputies located the suspect vehicle in the city of Ontario and conducted a vehicle stop where both suspects were detained. A search warrant for their residence was served in the 2500 block of East Riverside Drive, Ontario, where evidence connecting them to the thefts was recovered. During the search warrant, stolen clothing was also located from multiple retail establishments. Leon and Herrera were arrested and booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center for multiple counts of grand theft, organized retail crime theft, and conspiracy.
